Bet Amounts and Blackjack Betting Strategies

How much is a safe bet, and how much are we to increase or decrease bets? Often times, these depend on the blackjack betting strategies used.

It's a never-ending query—how much should we bet on a particular game. Too high a bet may win big but it may lead straight to bankruptcy as well when it loses. If we plan to remain long in a game session and bet high we are sure to lose much, if not all. Minimum wagers may be safe but they're aimless. They might not even allow us a free drink. So how much is a good bet?

The right amount of bet depends on the type of blackjack we're playing (low, medium, or high), the casino and table rules, and the blackjack betting strategies we use. Let's say we are playing a mainstream blackjack type with playing rules generally the same elsewhere in Vegas. The good bet amount has to do with hands played per shoe. Say, we use the common ratio of playing 24 hands per shoe. That will total 288 hands played in 4 hours of blackjack playing.

Computations allegedly show that with such number of plays the right bet amount is 2 percent of the bankroll for 4 hours of play. The returns are about 85 percent. Not bad. Hence, we can safely enjoy playing blackjack for 4 straight hours without worrying about our bankroll as long as we maintain bets at 2 percent. This also means blackjack betting strategies ought to be limited to minimum bet margins.

Doubling down would be similarly limited except in situations where the hand strategy is so sure, then we go with a maximum bet. Know when the house odds are at work and when it isn't. This comes with practice especially in noting the cards in and out of the deck. In simple terms, it's bet high when the odds are good, bet low when the odds are bad.

Some strategies follow a patterned increase and decrease of bet amounts as wins and losses happen. The right bet amount here is determined by the up and down trend in the games, following again the principle of betting high when the trend is good and betting low when the trend id bad. Even the mini-max betting method goes by the same principle.

Whatever the bet amount and blackjack betting strategy, the principle is the same: bets are timed and funded according to how good or bad a game is.
