Hands that Favor Double Down Blackjack Betting

Regular betting strategies are effective in blackjack games but we should also know double down blackjack betting, along with other tactics like surrendering, or splitting cards. Double down strategies should be learned well, as there are 42 of them. Here are some of the strategies.

Before anything, we should understand that betting strategies should conform to the house rules of the casino where we're playing in. Many casinos allow double down blackjack betting strategies. This is usually when we double the bet, take a card, and stand. The risks here are high, thus, double downs are opted only when the hand is a sure winner and the dealer's, a sure loser.

Winning is very profitable here, while losing is a tragedy with double downs. Another betting strategy when the odds seem low is surrendering. We give up the fight and save about half of our bet. But most casinos today don't allow this anymore—they're entitled to their strategies, as well.

Doubling down in the face of hard totals has the following scenario: our hand total is 11 and the dealer has from 2 to 10 as a first card. Another is our hand total is 10 and the dealer has from 2 to 9. Then there's a hand total of 9 while the dealer has from 3 to 6.

Doubling down in the face of soft totals has the following scenario: our hand is A-7 while the first card of the dealer is from 3 to 6. Another is an A-6 hand against the dealer's 3 to 6. Or, an A-4 hand and A and 5 pairs, while the dealer's is 4 to 6. Last, a hand of A-2 and A and 3 pairs, while the dealer's is 5 or 6.

Doubling down with a pair is not so encouraging. But sometimes it's safe doubling out with a pair of 5 initially, while the first card of the dealer has 2 to 9.

Generally, the most practical way of playing with double down blackjack betting has been being extra aware of the cards that are in use and bet big when we note that 10 and face cards are mostly out. But slowly this strategy is becoming obsolete, what with the trend to today of casinos using digitized card shuffling and multi-layer deck shoes.
